Assura becomes first B Corp on the FTSE 250 as part of ESG push

Assura Group (LSE:AGR), the health centre property developer, told investots that it has become the first B Corp company in London's FTSE 250.

Certification as a B Corp means a company has been verified by the B Lab non-profit organisation to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.

The healthcare real estate investment trust (REIT) chief executive Jonathan Murphy said "receiving this certification as the first FTSE 250 listed B Corp has validated the work we have been doing to focus on the impact we have for all our stakeholders".

To achieve certification in the UK, a company must complete an impact assessment process designed to help measure and manage a company’s positive impact on its workers, community, customers, environment and governance.

Assura has committed to becoming net zero carbon across its portfolio by 2040 and claims to take a "sound, ethical approach" to engaging with all stakeholders.

This includes a commitment to maximising a positive impact in the communities surrounding its buildings, aiming to generate £3.50 in "social value" per £1 invested.
