Indian restaurant chain Dishoom tops £100m revenues

Indian restaurant group Dishoom has broken through £100 million in annual sales for the first time since it opened in Covent Garden in 2010.

Now numbering nine restaurants, including in Edinburgh, Birmingham and Manchester plus four sites in the capital and two smaller Permit sites in Brighton and Cambridge, sales at the privately-owned group jumped 23% to £116.8 million in the year to 31 December 2023.

Known for street food dishes such as gunpowder potatoes and spicy lamb chops, underlying profits rose by 40% to £13.3 million as margins also picked up.

Founder Shamil Thakrar told the Standard: “These results reflect the incredible work of our team."

"Even more important than growth is keeping our focus strongly on hospitality, on providing guests with the most delicious food and the warmest service in beautiful restaurants and on making sure that Dishoom is one of the very best workplaces in hospitality."

Growth in revenue and underlying profit has continued in the current year, he added.
