Sovereign Metals Ltd (ASX:SVM, OTC:SVMLF, AIM:SVML) has taken part in the inaugural 2024 MINVEST/Minerals Security Partnership (MSP) Finance Meeting, held during the United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 23, 2024.
Energy minerals supply chains
The event was co-organised by the US Department of State and the SAFE Center for Critical Minerals Strategy and was aimed at fostering the development of sustainable and diverse critical energy minerals supply chains.
The event brought together senior officials from MSP governments, along with representatives from development finance institutions and export credit agencies, to explore collaborative opportunities in the critical minerals sector.
Sovereign chair Ben Stoikovich was a participant in a panel discussion titled “Mining Titans and New Horizons,” alongside Rio Tinto CEO Jakob Stausholm.
The session was moderated by Dr Zainab Usman, senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, and explored the investment appeal of resource-rich countries.
Stoikovich and Stausholm discussed how initiatives like the MSP can facilitate capital flows into mining projects, promoting economic growth.
Minerals Security Partnership
The MSP, established by the US Government and key partners in 2022, seeks to accelerate the development of critical minerals supply chains vital for the energy transition.
Sovereign Metals is focused on advancing the Kasiya Rutile-Graphite Project in Malawi, which is the world’s largest natural rutile deposit and the second-largest flake graphite deposit.
Both minerals are crucial for global energy needs, with rutile serving as a high-grade titanium feedstock, and graphite essential for battery production.
Sovereign’s project has gained strategic backing from Rio Tinto, which holds a 19.9% interest in the company.
Sovereign Metals attended the meeting at the invitation of the Minerals Investment Network for Vital Energy Security and Transition (MINVEST), a public-private partnership between the US Department of State and the SAFE Center for Critical Minerals.
