Elon Musk’s social media platform X (formerly Twitter) has made tentative steps to play ball with Brazilian authorities after the website was banned from the country in late August.
X had previously failed to name a legal representative to answer questions over the dissemination of fake news and hate speech on the platform, leading to the X being blocked in its sixth-largest market.
But the company has stated that it has hired lawyers, according to a Reuters report, and on Saturday was given five days to validate its legal representatives in the country.
It’s the latest development in a series of clashes between X and Brazilian authorities after Supreme Court judges voted to uphold a ban on the platform imposed by Justice Alexandre de Moraes.
Justice Moreas, dubbed a "dictator" by Musk, cited concerns about the promotion of political violence and threats to democratic elections arising from the alleged fake news spreading across X.
Musk, in dozens of Tweets, has framed the ban as an attack on free speech while calling Justice Moreas a communist.
