Kromek picked as supplier under new UK nuclear security framework

Kromek Group PLC (AIM:KMK) has been picked to further supply radiological nuclear detection equipment to the UK under a new government framework.

Kromek’s handheld, wearable and large-volume static radiation detectors will be pre-approved for orders from Britain’s Home Office over the next four years.

New government orders under the framework will aim to bolster the UK’s nuclear security, the company said in a statement on Monday.

Kromek noted it had successfully applied to become a pre-approved supplier of equipment for three of the framework’s four categories, opening the door for new government orders.

Combined, orders under these three categories are set to be worth up to £84 million.

“We are delighted to have become one of the few companies approved for the supply of radiological nuclear detection equipment under this,” chief executive Arnab Basu said.

“We have been providing our detectors to the UK government for several years and it is great to see the continued expansion of programmes that will enhance the UK's protection against radiological threats.”

Basu added Kromek was enjoying “excellent momentum” in its imagine and nuclear detection segments, including after selection under a seperate government framework to supply emergency services and a recent Ministry of Defence contract.
