Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced plans to invest £8 billion in building, operating, and maintaining data centers across the UK over the next five years.
This significant investment is driven by the growing demand for cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI), which AWS says could contribute around £14 billion to the UK's GDP and support around 14,000 jobs annually.
Tanuja Randery, AWS Vice President for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, highlighted the importance of the investment, stating: “The next few years could be among the most pivotal for the UK’s digital and economic future.”
She added that the company’s investment aims to support the increasing demand for digital infrastructure and help transform the UK's digital economy.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves called the investment a step toward economic revival and a boost for business in the UK.
AWS is owned by Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN).
