Market Report September 6: ASX Gains 0.33%, Led by Financials and Consumer Discretionary

Proactive's Tylah Tully gives a market wrap for the 6th of September.

The ASX 200 ended the day up 0.33%, gaining 26.7 points to close at 8009.1. Despite crossing its 20-day moving average, the index remains 1.71% below its 52-week high, with a 1.02% decline over the last five days.

Strike Energy rose by 5.88% to trade at 18 cents per share, possibly benefiting from recent discoveries of high-quality gas at its Erregulla Deep Project, announced late last month. Charter Hall Group (ASX:CHC) also gained, closing at $15.62 per share, although no specific news was reported for either company today.

Pilbara Minerals fell by over 6% to $2.42 per share, possibly reflecting continued market response to a recent disappointing earnings report, despite no fresh news today. Mineral Resources declined 5.28% to $30.50 per share.

Six of the eleven sectors closed higher, with Financials leading the gains at 1.33%, followed by Consumer Discretionary with a gain just under 1%. Energy was the worst-performing sector for the second consecutive day, dropping 3.04% and recording a total loss of 9.1% over the past five days.
