Voyageur Pharmaceuticals completes formulation of innovative diagnostic products, eyes FDA approval

Voyageur Pharmaceuticals Ltd (TSX-V:VM, OTC:VYYRF) announced the completion of formulation work on a new product line, consisting of five Health Canada licensed barium contrast agents for medical diagnostics.

The products, developed under the distinct brands Vision and Smooth, aim to set new market standards and provide enhanced value for stakeholders, according to the company.

The new formulations will undergo the FDA's 505(b)(2) drug approval pathway, which allows for faster approval by using existing data.

That streamlines the process and reduces costs compared to a full New Drug Application (NDA), which allows Voyageur to differentiate its products from generic alternatives and improve its competitive positioning in the market, it said in a statement.

Voyageur has successfully completed pilot test batches of the products and is now moving to patient trials, which are expected to take about two months. The trials will focus on imaging quality in X-ray and Computed Tomography (CT) scans, with independent white papers being prepared for each product to support future FDA licensing efforts.

CEO Brent Willis highlighted that the transition from generic formulations to a more advanced product line required significant investment but is expected to yield long-term benefits.

“This strategy is designed to expand the company's portfolio by creating new intellectual property, thereby securing a competitive advantage,” Willis said in a statement.

“We have numerous customers eager to upgrade their current product lines to our newly developed offerings.”

Upon completion of the patient trials, Voyageur plans to launch its new products in both Canadian and international markets.
