Market Report September 3: ASX Slips as Golden Deeps soars on major copper-zinc discovery

Proactive’s Tylah Tully gives a market wrap for the 3rd of September.

The ASX closed slightly lower, dropping by 0.08% to 8,103.2. Despite this minor decline, the index has gained 0.4% over the past five days and remains 0.55% below its 52-week high.

Golden Deeps saw a significant surge, with its stock price increasing by 164%. This rise followed the announcement of substantial sulphide mineralisation discovered at its Havilah Project in New South Wales. The company reported an 80-metre mineralised zone with high copper (up to 18.5%) and zinc (up to 34.8%) content.

Liontown Resources (ASX:LTR) and MinRes were the worst performers, each experiencing single-digit declines despite the absence of specific news.

Four sectors finished in positive territory, with Information Technology leading gains at 1.2%, followed by Financials at 0.89%. Conversely, Consumer Staples was the worst-performing sector, declining by 1.91%.
