BYD Co (HKG:1211, LSE:0HKY, OTCQX:BYDDY) has reported record sales over the course of August as hybrid vehicle volume growth overshadowed that of electric models.
Some 373,083 vehicles were sold over the month, marking an increase of 36% on the same month a year ago, BYD said in a statement.
This was as passenger hybrid sales jumped over 70% to 222,384, but fully electric car volumes nudged up less than 2% to 148,470.
Though sales of fully electric models did tick up, the figures come as concerns grow over stagnating demand globally for such vehicles.
Hyundai last week became the latest manufacturer to switch focus to hybrid models as a result, following similar moves from the likes of Ford, Porsche and Mercedes.
Rival start-ups Aito and Li Auto have reported lower electric vehicle figures for August against July in the meantime.
Over the year so far, BYD said sales had jumped 30% to 2,328,449, with plug-in hybrid volumes climbing 48% against 12% for battery-electric models.
