Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL, ETR:APC) and NVIDIA Corp (NASDAQ:NVDA, ETR:NVD) are said to be mulling investments in OpenAI as the ChatGPT maker closes in on a new funding round.
Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:MSFT) could also reportedly strengthen its stake in the artificial intelligence firm, after previously investing US$13 billion (£9.9 billion) in OpenAI over the last five years.
The funding round would reportedly value startup OpenAI at more than US$100 billion.
The Wall Street Journal reported on Apple’s involvement, which would come as ChatGPT products are set to feature in the technology giant’s future iOS software for iPhones.
This includes products set for launch later this year, such as the latest iPhone 16, with the software also due to stretch to the 15.
Bloomberg noted sources familiar with the matter had confirmed Nvidia’s discussions with OpenAI over an investment, with its chips used to power such AI models.
Thrive Capital would lead the funding round, according to Bloomberg, investing about US$1 billion.
