OpenAI seeks $100B valuation with major funding round: reports

OpenAI, the AI startup behind ChatGPT, is aiming for a valuation exceeding $100 billion as it nears a significant funding round, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Thrive Capital is leading the investment with approximately $1 billion, while Microsoft is also contributing, according to sources familiar with the discussions.

This latest round is set to be the largest since Microsoft’s $10 billion investment in January 2023.

The company’s valuation has surged from $86 billion late last year, reflecting its growing influence in the AI sector and sparking an industry-wide race among tech giants.

The new funding will support OpenAI’s need for advanced computing power and operational expenses, while also potentially allowing employees to sell some of their shares later this year.
