Terran Orbital (NYSE:LLAP)'s wholly-owned subsidiary Tyvak International has announced the successful launch and deployment of IPERDRONE.0.
IPERDRONE.0, a space vehicle developed for the Italian Space Agency, was launched on board SpaceX’s Transporter 11 mission on August 16 from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.
Tyvak said since the vehicle has been released from the launcher, first contact has been established and its team is working on the commissioning of the vehicle.
The IPERDRONE Program, involving partners Centro Italiano Ricerche Aerospaziali (CIRA) and Kayser Italia, will see Tyvak handling the satellite's hardware and software development, assembly, integration, testing, and launch.
They will also manage all on-orbit operations from their Mission Operations Center in Turin.
The IPERDRONE Program, designed as a series of missions with progressive goals, begins with IPERDRONE.0, which focuses on validating key technologies such as proximity operations algorithms, inspection cameras, and propulsion systems.
Future missions will explore collaborative space asset operations, advanced control mechanisms for atmospheric re-entry, and new materials for thermal protection.
