Harley-Davidson drops diversity programmes after 'anti-woke' backlash

Harley-Davidson (NYSE:HOG) backtracked on its diversity programme after being targeted by conservative influencer Robby Starbuck.

The famous motorbike manufacturer has faced a backlash from customers after policies (DEI) championed by chief executive Jonathan Zeitz on race theory, climate change and gender prompted calls to boycott the US icon.

In a statement released on Monday, H-D said it had dropped DEI and other initiatives that had caused bikers to abandon the legendary brand, adding the social media campaigns were 'designed to divide the Harley-Davidson (NYSE:HOG) community'.

'We have not operated a DEI function since April 2024, and we do not have a DEI function today,' said the statement.

'We do not have hiring quotas and we no longer have supplier diversity spend goals.'

The company said it would be reviewing all its sponsorships and outside organisations it works with, adding it would now work just on growing the sport of motorcycling.
