Recently completed soil sampling by Tempest Minerals Ltd (ASX:TEM) has expanded the copper and zinc footprint in the south of the compelling Remorse Target within the Yalgoo Project in Western Australia.
The sampling of a previously incomplete block has yielded comparable copper and zinc to previous work and further cements the coherent anomaly of approximately 5 x 1.5 kilometres.
Samples within this area consistently recorded assay values above 60 ppm copper and 70 ppm zinc with a peak of 167 ppm copper and 125 ppm zinc.
On eve of drilling
Copper minerals and the alteration identified in mineralogical studies increase the project’s prospectivity which Tempest says is exciting on the eve of a 5,000-metre RC drilling program.
Earthworks for this drilling are nearing completion and the program will begin upon arrival of the contracted drill rig.
Analysis of samples gathered utilising spectral mineralogical show the likely presence of a significant hydrothermal system to a degree much further than identified in geochemistry or fieldwork.
A 4.5-kilometre anomaly exhibits high-grade samples of up to 635 ppm copper and has a coherent layering of elements, including zinc, copper, nickel and rare earths.
Compelling target
The company holds more than 1,000 square kilometres of highly prospective tenure in the Yalgoo Region of Western Australia and previously announced the presence of large-scale copper-zinc anomalies at the Remorse Target based on geology, geochemistry and geophysics.
Tempest has for some time considered Remorse to be a compelling exploration target due to a number of geological factors with initial recognition due to the observation of an anomaly in previously conducted wide-spaced regional surface geochemical sampling.
The presence of magnetite and significant banded iron geology at Remorse is commonly spatially associated with Volcanogenic Massive Sulphide (VMS) systems in general and also a defining characteristic of the nearby Golden Grove copper-zinc deposit.
Potential feeder systems
Remorse features large-scale structures that offset the geology at surface and may serve as feeder systems, contributing to the potential mineralisation of the area. These potential feeders are considered significant as they are integral to the formation of many mineralised VMS systems.
As part of ongoing fieldwork, around 80 soil samples were collected to the south of the main Remorse geochemical anomaly where access was previously not possible during the first campaign.
Boxscan technology used
Samples were assayed using Labwest Ultrafine technique in conjunction with comprehensive scanning using Boxscan technology, which is part of Tempest’s ongoing commitment to innovative exploration techniques.
In addition to assays, TEM routinely conducts Boxscan analyses on samples to determine mineralogy, geochemistry and magnetic susceptibility among other useful variables.
This system, hosted at the Galt Discovery Centre in Perth, integrates industry standard tools including ASD, pXRF and Magnetic Susceptibility (Magsus) for precise, automated data collection.
The technology enables TEM to capture high-quality data efficiently, enhancing its exploration processes and bolstering its ability to make informed, strategic decisions.
Next steps
- Completion of drill-pad and access earthworks;
- Commencement of RC drilling at the Remorse Target; and
- First results anticipated in early Q4 2024.
