Willow Biosciences CEO confident in future after record revenue and new partnerships - ICYMI

Willow Biosciences Inc (TSX:WLLW, OTCQB:CANSF) CEO Dr Chris Savile told Proactive he is confident that Willow is on track to meet its revenue targets after the company announced record quarterly revenue of $1 million, a 660% increase compared to the same quarter in 2023.

This growth was largely driven by a strategic partnership with Laurus Labs, which added seven high-value Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) to Willow's portfolio, and the company anticipates total revenues exceeding $4 million for the fiscal year 2024.

Proactive: How do your recent financial numbers, record revenue growth, and strategic announcements reflect the progress you hoped to achieve for the rest of this year?

Dr Chris Savile: Q2 was an excellent quarter for us as we are finally starting to see the results of our efforts. Over a year ago, we initiated this platform model, focusing on commercialization through partnerships to generate near-term revenue while providing long-term upside.

We are now witnessing significant revenue growth through these partnerships and have a diverse pipeline of opportunities that promise future upside, making this an exciting time for us.

Is the 660% increase in record revenue for this quarter compared to the same quarter last year primarily attributed to the partnerships you've announced, including the most recent one?

That increase is largely due to our major partnership with Laurus Labs, which we signed earlier this year, and we're now seeing revenue growth from that R&D partnership. Additionally, we recently announced an opportunity in the biopesticides sector, which began in Q3, just after Q2.

This is another significant partnership that will continue to drive our revenue growth through 2024 and into 2025, and we expect to add more programs as we expand our revenue.

Chris, are people starting to understand how the company will progress moving forward? You mentioned in our previous discussions the significance of these partnerships, especially now that they are generating revenue. With your guidance suggesting a potential $4 million by the end of this year, does this indicate that your plan is succeeding as you had hoped?

Yes, and I hope people are starting to see that. We are focused on growing revenue while keeping our costs under control; we continue to reduce expenses and increase efficiency. We have assembled a team that can execute these programs to realize near-term revenue and achieve the long-term upside we envisioned.

What we need to do now is effectively communicate our story and highlight the data and results that demonstrate our successful execution of this strategy. The future looks bright for us, and we have many positive developments to share right now.

Lastly, can you elaborate on the significance of your technology and explain why companies are seeking partnerships with you?

I believe our strength lies in our ability to identify where biology can provide practical solutions. While biology can't solve everything—chemistry and extraction methods also have their merits—where biology is applicable, it excels. We focus on pinpointing those areas where biology can add significant value, enhancing sustainability, improving efficiency, and reducing costs. People are beginning to recognize the value we bring.

We find practical solutions that we can execute efficiently and bring to commercial reality quite quickly. As I always say, enzymes and organisms don't differentiate based on the ingredient's application. Whether it's for pharmaceuticals, food, or biopesticides, the opportunities for us are truly endless. We are deploying our platform and technology across these new sectors.
