BMW AG (ETR:BMW) has announced a recall of 1.36 million vehicles in China due to potential risks associated with Takata airbags.
The recall involves cars produced between 2003 and 2017, according to China's State Administration for Market Regulation.
BMW Brilliance Automotive, a joint venture in northeast China, will recall 598,496 China-made cars, while BMW China Automobile Trading will recall 759,448 imported cars.
"For vehicles that have been confirmed to have defects after inspection, BMW will replace the driver's front airbag free of charge to eliminate safety hazards," the company stated.
The recall is aimed at BMW vehicles with steering wheel refits, which may have been fitted with faulty Takata airbags. In a similar move, BMW also recalled 394,000 vehicles in the United States in July due to defective Takata airbag inflators.
BMW Brilliance Automotive is a joint venture between BMW and its Chinese partner.
