Latrobe Magnesium advances plant, expects revenue by October

Latrobe Magnesium advances plant, expects revenue by October

Latrobe Magnesium Ltd (ASX:LMG, OTC:LTRBF) managing director David Paterson joins Proactive’s Tylah Tully to discuss how the company is progressing construction of its Magnesium Demonstration Plant, expecting to generate its first revenue by October 2024.

The company reports that the Spray Roaster Lighting has been completed, enabling 24-hour operation. The plant uses a patented process to extract magnesium metal and cementitious material from industrial fly ash, a waste product of brown coal power generation.

The construction is nearing completion, with only ten operational items remaining on the punch list, none of which pose technical challenges. The company anticipates the production of magnesium oxide starting in early October, with revenue expected shortly thereafter.

Latrobe Magnesium has also contracted Snowy Mountains Engineering Corporation (SMEC) to evaluate sites for a proposed Stage 2 commercial plant. This plant is expected to produce 10,000 tonnes of magnesium per year, eventually scaling up to a 100,000-tonne-per-year international facility in Malaysia.

Magnesium, known for its superior strength-to-weight ratio, is widely used in the manufacturing of car parts, electronics, and power tools.
