Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence startup xAI this week unveiled a preview of Grok-2, an updated version of its previous model Grok-1.5 which features enhanced chat, coding and reasoning capabilities.
The company also introduced Grok-2 mini, a smaller, faster “sibling” of Grok-2.
xAI said the models marked a “significant step forward” from Grok-1.5
"Compared to its predecessor, Grok-2 is more intuitive, steerable, and versatile across a wide range of tasks, whether you're seeking answers, collaborating on writing, or solving coding tasks,” the company said in a statement.
Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini are available in beta on Musk’s social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, with a Premium subscription.
xAI said both models will be available through its enterprise API later this month.
Grok-2’s performance is considered better than Meta’s and Anthropic’s most advanced models, according to a ranking on a leading site for comparing AI model capabilities LMSYS.
However, it fails to match up to OpenAI’s latest model GPT-4o and Google’s Gemini Pro.
