Wizz Air Holdings PLC (AIM:WIZZ) has launched Europe's first unlimited flight package, at a time when headwinds for the company are growing and industry competition is ramping up.
Travellers will be able to fly unlimited around Europe for £534 a year (currently on sale for £445 until tomorrow) as part of the budget airline’s ‘The All You Can Fly’ package.
Despite offering 800 destinations to travel to customers, the largest caveat appears to be that bookings must be made within 72 hours of departure.
Also, each flight comes with a £9 booking fee and luggage tariffs of between €11 to €120.50, while there are extra charges for seat protection ranging from €80 to €100.
Wizz Air’s push to ramp up demand comes amid a tough period for the Hungarian group, having lowered annual profit guidance at the start of the month as flight groundings hampered earnings.
Around a fifth of its planes have been unable to fly because of potential problems with engines developed by Pratt & Whitney.
Analysts at Citi predicted last week that Wizz Air could undershoot the recently lowered guidance as the grounding delays persist.
To make matters worse, those flights that do depart are doing so with fewer on-board after the airline was reported to have suffered a sharp drop in passenger numbers over July despite its carbon emissions increasing.
