Chevrolet and Cadillac owner General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) has recalled more than 21,000 electric SUVs in the US due to fears that the anti-lock brake systems can be initiated unexpectedly.
The recall targets the 2023-2024 models of Cadillac Lyriq all-wheel drive vehicles, according to a statement from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The issue involves the anti-lock brake system, which is designed to prevent the wheels from locking up during braking.
The unanticipated activation of this system could increase the risk of accidents, however, GM plans to address the issue through an over-the-air software update.
This recall comes after the NHTSA opened a preliminary evaluation in April into more than 3,000 Cadillac Lyriq vehicles following complaints about a potential loss of brake assist.
Shares in General Motors have slipped slightly after today’s recall, with the stock down more than 1% at US$42.99.
