European and US authorities today announced that they had dismantled a major criminal ransomware gang.
Radar/Dispossessor has attacked dozens of companies across multiple sectors since it was founded in 2023, according to authorities in Germany and the US.
Known victims include 43 companies in countries ranging from Argentina to the UK, Poland, Australia, and Germany, but it is believed that many more companies were victimised but did not report the attacks.
Vulnerable computer systems, weak passwords, and a lack of two-factor authentication provided a gateway into company IT systems, where data could then be held for ransom, authorities said.
Twelve suspects from Germany, Ukraine, Russia, Kenya, Serbia, Lithuania, and the United Arab Emirates have been identified, according to German authorities.
Servers in the UK, Germany, and the US belonging to the group have been dismantled, according to the reports.
