Rocket Lab USA Inc (NASDAQ:RKLB) shares surged as the leader in launch services and space systems impressed investors with its second quarter results.
For the quarter ended June 30, 2024, Rocket Lab posted record revenue of $106 million, a 71% increase from the year-ago quarter.
This was ahead of Wall Street estimates of $105.5 million.
Its loss per share was $0.08, better than the loss per share of $0.10 expected.
Operational highlights for the period included successful Electron launches for NASA, commercial constellation operators Synspective, Kineis, and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology; the signing of 17 new launch contracts in the year-to-date; and significant progress made in the development and flight hardware of Neutron structures, fairing, avionics, and flight software.
“This 71% year-on-year revenue increase demonstrates the strong and growing demand for our launch services and space systems products, and importantly, our team’s ability to execute against it,” Rocket Lab CEO Peter Beck said in a statement.
Shares of Rocket Lab added 13% at $5.24 in early trade on Friday.
The company’s positive results also buoyed other space sector stocks, with Redwire adding 15.6%, Momentus Inc (NASDAQ:MNTS) up 14.1%, Terran Orbital (NYSE:LLAP) up 3.9%, and Intuitive Machines adding 2.2%.
