AppLovin shares rise after Q2 profit tops estimates

AppLovin shares added almost 10% after the mobile technology firm reported higher than expected profits for the second quarter.

Earnings per share were $0.89, ahead of estimates of $0.74.

Revenue was in line with the consensus at $1.08 billion, a 44% increase from the year-ago quarter.

Software Platform revenue grew 75% year-over-year to $711 million, attributed by the company to improvements to its Axon technology.

Apps revenue was up 7% at $369 million.

"In the second quarter of 2024, we celebrated the first anniversary of our enhanced Axon technology," the company said in a letter to shareholders.

"Reflecting on the past year, we're thrilled by the significant growth Axon drove for our advertising partners. Axon enhancements through ongoing self-learning and our dedicated development efforts have fueled robust business performance this quarter."

For the third quarter, AppLovin projected revenue at the midpoint of $1.125 billion, ahead of the $1.1 billion expected by analysts.

Shares of AppLovin had added 9.9% at about $74 in the early afternoon on Thursday.
