Disney+ set to hike streaming price again

Walt Disney Co (NYSE:DIS, ETR:WDP) is set to raise prices across its streaming services over the coming months and one year on from the last hike.

Prices across Disney+, Hulu and ESPN are all set to increase in the US, which will come into play from October 17.

Subscriptions for ad-supported Disney+ will rise by 25% to US$10 a month, while the platform’s ad-free service will increase by US$2 to US$16.

Television and movie platform Hulu will see the same rise for ad-supported plans, as ad-free subscriptions climb from US$18 to US$19 per month.

Sports streaming service ESPN+ will cost an extra dollar at US$12 per month after the update, which will also see annual subscription prices climb across the platforms.

The hikes mark the fourth time Disney has increased prices since rolling out its streaming platform and leave costs more than double what they were five years ago.

News of the increases emerged overnight, ahead of Disney’s third-quarter earnings release, due ahead of the market’s open on Wednesday.

Whether the increase will be implemented across different countries remains to be seen, with Disney's previous hike also hitting the UK.

Disney is set to complement the price hikes with new features, including access to live ABC News and a series of pre-made playlists geared toward different audiences.
