Coniagas Battery Metals (TSX-V:COS) has identified new cobalt-copper concentrates for processing using its advanced Re-2Ox process.
The company has secured potential monthly shipments of 200 to 500 tonnes of these concentrates from European warehouse operators, ensuring a reliable supply of high-quality raw materials.
This initiative complements significant stockpiles in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which total approximately 30 million tonnes with high grades of copper and cobalt.
The Re-2Ox process, developed over six years for $8 million, enables zero-discharge extraction and purification, significantly reducing environmental impact and operational costs.
This process has been validated through extensive testing, including bench scales, two pilot plant studies, and a plant trial.
Coniagas plans to use this technology to produce cobalt and nickel sulfates for EV batteries.
With the recent decline in Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) battery prices below the critical $100 per kilowatt-hour threshold, Coniagas is well-positioned to offer competitive pricing and reliable supply to battery manufacturers.
The company’s strategic positioning and operational efficiencies support the growing demand for EV batteries.
Coniagas is also establishing a pilot plant production facility in Quebec, leveraging collaborations with SGS Quebec and targeting funding from Investissement Québec.
This facility is expected to enhance Coniagas’s ability to supply critical materials efficiently and sustainably to global markets.
Additionally, the company is expanding its potential production capabilities to include a wider array of cathode-active materials (CAM) and Precursor cathode-active materials (PCAM).
