Elon Musk has claimed his social media company X has “no choice” but to close its San Francisco headquarters in California and move to Texas.
This comes after the Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) owner announced on social media that X and his rocket company SpaceX would move from California in retaliation to new state gender identity laws last month.
“It is impossible to operate in San Francisco if you’re processing payments,” he argued in the latest X post.
“That’s why Stripe, Block (CashApp) & others had to move.”

Musk had taken aim at a new state ban on schools creating rules requiring staff to inform anyone, including parents, of a child’s gender identity.
He accused a string of new laws in the state of “attacking families and companies,” adding at the time that SpaceX and X’s new headquarters would be at Starbase and Austin respectively.
This comes after Tesla’s headquarters was relocated to Musk’s resident state of Texas, where there is no income tax, in 2021.
