Elon Musk has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman, alleging the company compromised its mission to benefit humanity.
The new lawsuit, filed in California federal court, follows Musk's withdrawal of a similar state court case two months ago.
The suit accuses Altman and co-founder Greg Brockman of breaking federal racketeering laws by manipulating Musk into co-founding a non-profit, only to shift to a for-profit model, particularly as ties with Microsoft deepened.
Musk's dispute with Altman began in 2018 when he left OpenAI's board over research direction disagreements.
OpenAI's for-profit division, established in 2019, has received $13 billion from Microsoft, now under regulatory scrutiny.
Musk, who launched his own AI start-up, xAI, last year, plans to seek Tesla board approval to invest $5 billion to compete with OpenAI. OpenAI has yet to comment on the lawsuit.
