Persimmon should be buoyed by base rate cut

Persimmon PLC (LSE:PSN) has been recovering after a difficult 2023 with the shares up more than 60% since their lows of nine months ago.

First-quarter trading at the housebuilder showed higher sales rates alongside a growing order book.

Markets are looking for £1.25 billion of revenue from next week’s half-year results, according to Hargreaves Lansdown. Any beat on this front is likely to be met with a positive response from investors.

A change in government and promises to refresh planning regulations have brought some early signs of optimism to the sector as will Thursday’s cut in base rates that has already seen mortgage costs dropping.

Half-year results are due Thursday 8 August.
