Airbus hit with criminal probe over UK export rules

Airbus Group (EPA:AIR) is facing a criminal investigation over a potential breach of export control rules in the UK.

According to the France-based company’s interim results on Tuesday, Airbus was cooperating with the UK’s Revenue and Customs Authority over the possible breach.

This comes after an audit was carried out by UK authorities in 2022, a Reuters-cited source said, with a probe subsequently having been launched.

Airbus reported the investigation, which it said was not expected to carry material financial impact, alongside results showing a 56% drop in adjusted pre-tax earnings to €814 million (£687 million) over the second quarter.

Revenue climbed 1% to just shy of €16 billion over the quarter, with Airbus attributing the fall in earnings to a €989 million charge on its space business after issuing a profit warning last month.

“Airbus is working with all relevant authorities to ensure full remediation of all identified deficiencies,” a spokesperson added on the probe.
