Spectral AI advances handheld burn assessment device for military use

Spectral AI Inc (NASDAQ:MDAI) announced it continues to advance the development of the DeepView SnapShot M, a handheld diagnostic tool for battlefield burn assessments leveraging its AI-driven DeepView System platform.

The company highlighted that the DeepView SnapShot M has been designed to be part of the battlefield triage process by providing a fast and accurate assessment of burn wounds.

The company said it continues to refine the device and is developing features required for military use including the miniaturization of the device’s five cameras while retaining the same depth of wavelength as its cart-based DeepView System, without trading off tolerance or accuracy.

The cameras were optimized to reduce unwanted light, a challenge in field-based settings rather than a clinically controlled environment, and image capture time remains less than one second.

Peter Carlson, Spectral AI CEO, highlighted that successful burn management is essential to patient survival, with this need magnified in a battlefield setting.

“Developing technology that can support our nation’s armed forces is a matter of much personal and professional pride for all of us at Spectral AI, and we are honored to be a part of a select group of companies pursuing that objective,” Carlson said.

“We are continuing to advance the evolution of this proprietary AI-driven burn wound assessment technology, and believe that its potential applications can extend beyond military use to serve our first responders and other healthcare providers.”

Further, the company announced an abstract titled “Advancing Combat Burn Assessment of DeepView’s Handheld Device for Military Field Use” has been accepted for a poster presentation at the Department of Defence’s 2024 Military Health System Research Symposium, being held from August 26 to 29.
