Chanel raises €700 million in private debt deal: report

Chanel has raised €700 million (US$758 million) from a private bond sale, according to a Bloomberg report.

Citing people with knowledge of the matter, Bloomberg said Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS, ETR:GOS). and Societe Generale SA arranged the debt for Chanel.

The notes will reportedly mature in 10 to 12 years.

London-based Chanel is the latest luxury fashion name to raise debt privately, coming after German engineering firm Robert Bosch Gmbh, Italian chocolatier Ferrero and French drinks maker Remy Cointreau inked similar deals.

This form of private debt enables companies to access institutional investors like insurers directly, helping them to avoid the volatility of public credit markets.

Chanel declined to comment on the report, Bloomberg said.
