Global Energy Metals Corp (TSX-V:GEMC) has announced high-grade graphite findings at the Millennium Project in Queensland, Australia.
Drilling, funded by joint venture partner Metal Bank Limited, revealed significant high-grade graphite intervals adjacent to the existing cobalt-copper-gold resource.
Highlights include 2.6 metres (m) at 19.2% TGC (total graphitic carbon) from 168.4m, 5.8m at 17.4% TGC from 180m and 3.8m at 17.6% TGC from 188m.
The graphite mineralization extends over a two kilometre strike length, Global Energy Metals noted.
Graphite at Millennium is associated with metamorphosed carbonaceous sediments near mafic units, according to a statement from the company. Previous petrology suggested a relationship between graphite and metal mineralization. The recent drilling results support earlier findings and point to significant graphite potential within the project area.
"These initial results from our partner-funded drill program are encouraging and highlight the potential for large-scale graphite targets adjacent to the established cobalt-copper-gold resource at Millennium,” Mitchell Smith, CEO of Global Energy Metals said in a statement.
“MBK (Metal Bank) is currently reassessing drill samples for graphite potential and has established a data room for third-party interest.”
The Millennium Project is strategically located near other graphite development projects in the state of Queensland.
The growing demand for graphite, driven by the electric vehicle battery sector, underscores the project's importance.
Millennium also hosts a cobalt-copper-gold mineral resource of 8.4 million tonnes at 1.23% copper equivalent.
