Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) is recalling over 1.8 million vehicles in the United States due to a potential software failure that might not detect an unlatched hood, according to Reuters citing the the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
This issue could cause the hood to fully open and obstruct the driver’s view, increasing the risk of a crash, the report said.
Tesla has started deploying an over-the-air software update to address this problem and notify customers.
The recall affects certain 2021-2024 Model 3, Model S, Model X, and 2020-2024 Model Y vehicles.
The affected vehicles have a hood latch produced by Magna Closures in China.
Tesla began investigating this issue in March following customer complaints in China and extended the investigation to Europe and North America last month.
This follows a June recall of more than 11,000 Cybertrucks over windshield wiper and exterior trim issues.
