Games Workshop to finalise creative guidelines for Amazon Warhammer series

Tabletop gaming and Warhammer 40,000 owner Games Workshop Group PLC (LSE:GAW) is finalising “creative guidelines” to bring its cornerstone piece of intellectual property to Amazon Prime.

First announced in December 2023, Games Workshop entered into an agreement with Amazon Content Services, a subsidiary of Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN), to create a series of films and television programmes based in the Warhammer 40k universe.

In an annual financial report published on Tuesday, Games Workshop said it now has until December to agree on creative guidelines for the project.

“The agreement will only proceed if the creative guidelines are mutually agreed between Games Workshop and Amazon. We will update you accordingly,” said Games Workshop.

Amazon will be keen to bring another popular science fiction gaming franchise to the screen following the critical success of its Fallout TV show.

A string of other recent successful gaming adaptations, including The Last of Us and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, has sparked further interest in bringing such franchises to the screen.

Elsewhere in Games Workshop’s results, total revenues across core and licensing segments increased from £470.8 million to £525.7 million, marking an 11.7% year-on-year increase.

Profit before tax rose 19% to £203 million and earnings per share increased from 409.7p to 458.8p.

Shares added 1.1% on Tuesday.
