J Sainsbury PLC (LSE:SBRY) stores across the country suffered an expected issue this week after a glitch allowed customers to repeatably use the same voucher at self-checkout tills.
Videos of customers exiting with multiple shopping trolleys filled to the brim began circulating on social media earlier this week after the public found out about the glitch.
Appearing on the Sainsbury’s app on Monday, the discount coupon allowed customers to continually scan, essentially allowing customers to get anything in the store for free.
Photos and videos of people exploiting the glitch could be found online and showed people with bills as little as pennies, with one customer buying air fryers for 18p.
Another clip from East London showed two men arguing with shopworkers as they scanned the voucher multiple times, with staff telling the shoppers it was not allowed.
In the video, the man tells the workers: “I am using a coupon. Disconnect it from the system and I won't use the coupon. The system allows me to use it so I'm using it. If it's a frauded coupon, how is it on the Sainsbury's app?”

A spokesperson for Sainsbury's said: 'We have seen an increase in fraudulent coupons in our stores and we have processes in place to detect and block them.
'We also have in-store detectives monitoring for fraudulent attempts and we are working closely with the police on this issue. We continue to accept genuine coupons and vouchers.'
Sainsbury’s said it would not disclose the financial impact of the glitch.
