QC Copper and Gold Inc. (TSX-V:QCCU, OTCQB:QCCUF) said it has established a new working group with the City of Chapais to aid the responsible development of its Opémiska project in the province of Quebec.
The City/Mine Group (CMG) will ensure the exploration and development of the Opémiska project adhere to the highest industry standards, QC Copper said in a statement.
The CMG will serve as a transparent forum where representatives from QC Copper & Gold and Chapais leadership can discuss issues on an equal footing.
Facilitated by Transfert Environnement et Société, the meetings will produce reports and set schedules to ensure productive outcomes.
Guy Le Bel, president of QC Copper & Gold, emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating: "We aim for a harmonious approach that benefits both the Opémiska project and the local community. With these objectives in mind, we are committed to presenting a respectful and socially responsible project, considering the proximity to Chapais."
Chapais Mayor Jacques Fortin highlighted the city's high standards for mining development.
"We are open to welcoming projects on our territory, but our expectations are high," Fortin said in a statement. "Thus far, everything suggests that the project proposed by QC Copper & Gold will continue to respect municipal values such as harmony, nature protection, and citizens' well-being. This is our top priority,"
QC Copper & Gold is also focused on strengthening the regional economy through a local procurement policy designed to create jobs and ensure long-term economic growth.
The Opémiska project is advancing towards its preliminary economic study.
