Athletes and spectators face a scramble to reach Paris in time for the 2024 Olympic Games as a major IT outage continues to cause global air travel chaos.
American Airlines and Delta have grounded flights following an apparent issue stemming from a software upgrade at Microsoft’s cybersecurity partner Crowdstrike.
United Airlines said in a press statement: “A third party software outage is impacting computer systems worldwide, including at United… we are holding all aircraft at their departure airports. Flights already airborne are continuing to their destinations.”
While Paris Airport appears to be unaffected by the outage, the major European hub warned that “this situation has an impact on the operations of airlines at Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Paris-Orly airports: delays in check-in, delays and temporary suspension of some flights”.
“Our teams are mobilized to orient and assist passengers,” the airport added.
