Samsung Electronics (KRX:005930) has agreed to acquire Oxford Semantic Technologies, a British startup specialising in technology that can be used for more sophisticated artificial intelligence (AI) applications, Reuters reported.
Oxford Semantic specialises in knowledge graph technology, which stores information as an interconnected web of related ideas and mirrors the human reasoning process.
This can be used to better personalise AI applications such as on-device AI on Samsung phones, Samsung said in a statement.
The value of the deal was not disclosed.
Samsung’s move comes just a few days after SoftBank, the owner of UK-chip design pioneer Arm Holdings, acquired British chipmaker Graphcore as part of its investment in artificial intelligence.
