Standard Uranium Ltd (TSX-V:STND, OTCQB:STTDF) is gearing up to commence a new drilling campaign at its Sun Dog Uranium Project, located near Uranium City in northwestern Saskatchewan.
An upcoming campaign aims to test high-priority targets for potential high-grade, unconformity-related basement-hosted uranium mineralization along structural and conductive corridors, the company said in a statement.
Drilling will focus on multiple high-priority drill targets identified through recent prospecting of conductive rock trends from a VTEM Plus airborne survey.
The program will cover approximately 1,000 to 1,200 meters across five to seven drill holes.
The targets will test conductive corridors marked by newly discovered radioactive graphitic fault zones at the surface, the company added.
The Wishbone and Spring-Dome areas contain historical high-grade uranium assays from outcrop samples, ranging from 0.30% to 17.4% U3O8.
At Wishbone, new and historical uranium mineralization with radioactivity readings up to 22,300 counts per second (cps) have been found within and adjacent to graphitic pelite, which has not been previously drill tested.
At Spring-Dome, recent prospecting has revealed zones of strong surface radioactivity associated with visible uranium mineralization.
A third target, McNie, features untested VTEM conductors offset by major faults, hosting known uranium showings towards the past-producing Gulch uranium mine.
The project is currently under a three-year earn-in option agreement with Aero Energy Ltd, which will fund the program. Standard Uranium is the operator.
"Our recent prospecting program at Sun Dog significantly upgraded our target zones for this summer's drill program,” Sean Hillacre, Standard Uranium’s president and vice president of exploration, said in a statement.
“Locating and mapping radioactive graphitic pelitic rocks at the surface, which are the ideal host rocks we are targeting, is exceptional. The technical team and I were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the showings we were able to ground truth and expand, sharpening our targeting for drilling to start next week."
