Household goods giant Reckitt sustained ‘significant damage’ from Indiana tornado strike

Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC (LSE:RKT, ETR:3RB), the consumer goods giant behind Dettol, Durex, Finish and Gaviscon, sustained “significant damage” to its warehouse in the US state of Indiana during a tornado strike on 9 July.

Reckitt confirmed that no employees were harmed, but the Mount Vernon warehouse, an important site for its Mead Johnson Nutrition business, remains non-operational.

Nutrition sales will likely be affected in the short term while Reckitt diverts inbound deliveries to other warehouses across the US.

Reckitt expressed its “deepest sympathy for those in the community who have been affected by the tornado” and will provide a further update in its half-year results due on 24 July.

The midwest has battled a particularly severe tornado brutal this year, with storms leaving a trail of damage across Indiana, Iowa and Ohio.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency on Tuesday as brutal storms continue to rip through the East Coast.
