Russian antivirus giant Kaspersky Labs has quit the US after the Biden administration banned the sale and distribution of its software.
Kaspersky described the decision as "sad and difficult", citing that business opportunities in the US are no longer viable.
Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo had previously said that Moscow's influence over Kaspersky posed a significant risk to US infrastructure and services, something the company denied.
"Starting from July 20, 2024, Kaspersky will gradually wind down its US operations and eliminate US-based positions," the company stated.
Kaspersky had initially vowed to pursue all legal options to contest the ban and denied engaging in any activities that threatened US security.
The Moscow-based company operates in 31 countries, including the UK, serving over 400 million users and 270,000 corporate clients worldwide.
