ScS quits carpets despite it being in its name

ScS Group PLC (AIM:SCS), the home furnishings retailer, has stopped selling carpets despite it being in the company’s name.

All of Sofa Carpet Specialist’s flooring ranges have been removed from its online site, while stores have stopped stocking the products, reports from Retail Week revealed.

Flooring accounted for 8% of ScS's revenue, but the company has not gained market share in this category despite investments.

The retailer will fulfil all remaining flooring orders and ensure warranties remain valid.

This decision comes after it was bought by Italian retailer Poltronesofà back in October for around £100 million.

Since the group took over, it has switched ScS’s focus to selling sofas and armchairs, aligning it with the rest of the company.

This change comes as competitor Carpetright faces potential administration, putting nearly 2,000 jobs at risk.

If Carpetright closes, ScS’s streamlining would leave Tapi Carpets as one of the last major specialist chains selling carpets and flooring in physical stores across the UK.
