Billionaire Daniel Kretinsky, who is looking to acquire Royal Mail owner International Distributions Services PLC (LSE:IDS) in a £3.6 billion deal, has vowed to maintain the six-day postal service in the UK.
Speaking to the BBC, Kretinsky said: "As long as I'm alive, I completely exclude this," referring to the possibility of reducing the Universal Service Obligation, which mandates mail delivery across the country six days a week.
This commitment comes amid concerns that financial pressures and evolving postal needs could lead to reduced services.
His assurance to uphold the Universal Service Obligation is significant, given the challenges faced by the postal service industry.
Financial strains and the shift towards digital communication have placed traditional mail services under pressure.
