A union representing around 30,000 Samsung Electronics (KRX:005930) workers in South Korea has called for an indefinite strike to demand better pay and benefits.
This decision follows a three-day general strike organised by the National Samsung Electronics Union (NSEU), which claims that management has refused to negotiate.
The union, representing nearly a quarter of Samsung's workforce, reported disrupted production, although Samsung disputes this.
About 6,500 workers have joined the strike so far, with more encouraged to participate.
The company asserts it will ensure production continues without interruption and remains open to negotiations. This marks the second strike since the first in the company's 55-year history.
Samsung Electronics, a leading producer of memory chips, smartphones, and televisions, recently forecast a significant profit increase due to rising demand for AI technology, despite its shares trading slightly lower following the strike announcement.
