Australian Gold and Copper kicks off major exploration campaign at Achilles in Cobar Basin

Australian Gold and Copper Ltd (ASX:AGC) has started a major new exploration campaign at the Achilles Project in the southern portion of the Cobar Basin in central NSW aimed at rapidly expanding the high-grade gold and base metals discovery.

This campaign incorporates a reverse circulation (RC) drilling program as well as an induced polarisation (IP) geophysical survey, both of which are underway.

Drilling program

AGC has started the RC drilling, which will include up to 20 holes, and this will be followed by up to 10 diamond core holes.

Six RC holes have been completed, with this program to focus on extending the strike length and depth of the deposit, along with testing the continuity of the high-grade zones.

Additionally, the company will also drill-test a number of nearby ‘look-a-like’ targets during the upcoming campaigns.

IP survey

An extensive IP electrical geophysics survey is also underway to test for further sulphide-bearing targets along an 8-kilometre section of the Achilles Shear Zone.

This survey, which will extend from immediately south of the Achilles discovery in a zone that AGC’s technical team considers highly prospective for additional gold and base metal discoveries, is expected to take up to two months to complete.

Limited aircore drilling has previously mapped the locations of the shear and associated anomalism, with a historic hole at the southern end of the shear zone grading 18 metres at 0.44% copper from 30 metres.

Work plan at Achilles for the remainder of 2024.
