Liberty Star Uranium & Metals Corp. (OTC:LBSR) (dba Liberty Star Minerals) said it had discovered “bonanza-grade” gold in initial channel sampling assay results from the Red Rock Canyon gold project, located within the Hay Mountain project in southeast Arizona.
The company told shareholders it believes RRC contains commercially significant metals associated with porphyry copper-gold-molybdenum geological structures, which are prevalent in the region from central Arizona to northern Mexico.
The discovery of high-grade gold in the initial sampling mirrors previous investigations in 2020 and 2021, which Liberty Star said boosted its belief in the presence of substantial quantities of near-surface high-grade gold.
Chief geologist Jim Bryce highlighted the significant discovery of high-grade gold in over 30% of the sampled lenses at RRC, with promising correlations to historical chip sampling showing grades ranging up to 85.8 g/t.
“Our next steps will be to continue with the channel sampling and begin to get this information into a 3D modeling software to better understand the RRC mineralization and plan for future work on the site,” Bryce said in a statement.
Bryce emphasized the importance of further channel sampling and 3D modeling to deepen understanding of the mineralization and support future drilling efforts.
“The grades we have seen to date indicate the presence of a broad, epithermal gold system within the RRC boundaries. This system is almost certainly related to the suspected copper/gold porphyry system nearby in the Hay Mountain property.”
The current results derive from channel samples taken across 23 jasperoid lenses, totaling 116 samples. Channel sampling in the area is ongoing, with additional samples expected to be sent to ALS Labs within two weeks.
Recent fieldwork has identified numerous subcrops of jasperoid, characterized on the surface by elongated zones of iron oxide-stained jasper and jasper breccia float. Liberty Star plans to collect and analyze grab samples to facilitate the planning of a future mechanized phase of the project.
