Another incident involving a Boeing Co (NYSE:BA, ETR:BCO) jet was recorded overnight when a United Airlines flight lost a wheel during take-off from Los Angeles.
“The wheel has been recovered in Los Angeles, and we are investigating what caused this event,” United said in a statement on Monday.
The plane, a 30-year-old Boeing 757-200, was able to land safely in Denver, its destination, with no injuries, the airline added.
The wheel landed on a car in an airport employee parking lot, breaking a car window, also with no injuries, AFP reported.
Boeing has been under intense scrutiny for in-flight and production issues ever since a door plug blew off an Alaskan Airlines Max 9 plane mid-flight in January.
The planes were grounded for inspection after that incident costing Boeing hundreds of millions of dollars in compensation.
Since then there have been reported incidents involving 777s, 737-900s with Boeing now moving to re-acquire its fuselage assembler Spirit in an attempt to get a handle on the problems.
Just this week, Boeing also agreed to pay a US$243.6 million fine and plead guilty to fraud in a deal with US federal prosecutors to avoid a criminal trial over failure to follow an agreement with the US Department of Justice after two 737 Max jets crashed in 2018 and 2019 killing all 346 people aboard.
