SSE PLC (LSE:SSE) said it has won the tender for a new 2GW offshore windfarm in the North Sea, IJmuiden Ver, in conjunction with 50.50 partner APG, a vehicle of Dutch pension fund ABP.
A final investment decision (FID) is expected by late 2025, with, if it goes ahead, the wind farm to be commissioned by the end of the decade.
Stephen Wheeler, managing director, SSE Renewables, said: "Our successful bid is testament to the work the consortium and its partners have undertaken to put forward a compelling set of proposals.”
The joint venture will enter into a 40-year lease period for the Alpha site for an annual payment of around €1 million.
A performance bond has also been posted which is linked to on-time delivery of the wind farm, while the €20 million cost of an environmental impact assessment completed by Dutch authorities will be reimbursed.
IJmuiden Ver is SSE's first seabed award in the established Dutch offshore wind market where it said it sees significant and sustainable growth potential.
The Netherlands represents a complementary and adjacent market to SSE's existing North Sea offshore projects, the generator added.
The 2GW project (SSE share 1GW) grows SSE's secured offshore wind pipeline to 9.3GW.
IJmuiden Ver Alpha will meet around 7% of the current Dutch electricity demand.
