Ocado Group PLC (LSE:OCDO) and AEON have announced plans to build a third customer fulfilment centre (CFC) in Kuki-Miyashiro, Saitama, Japan. This operation is expected to open in 2027.
Ocado partnered with AEON in 2019 to provide the automated backbone for AEON’s online grocery business, AEON NEXT.
The first hub opened in Chiba City a year ago, and a second one will get underway in Hachioji in 2026 using the UK group's technology to offer a wide range of fresh and convenient grocery products.
AEON will upgrade its current centres with new Ocado technology to improve efficiency and reduce costs. More CFCs are planned under the current programme.
"As demonstrated by the state-of-the-art CFC live in Honda, Ocado is helping AEON NEXT to provide a seamless online grocery experience to customers across Tokyo," said Ocado CEO Time Steiner. "We can't wait to bring this service to even more customers in the years to come."
